Nasdaq has hired a senior banker from Salomon Smith Barney (SSB) as executive vice president of corporate strategy.
The US exchange said in a statement that Bill Harts will "be responsible for initiating and developing strategic opportunities" and will report directly to Wick Simmons, chairman and chief executive of Nasdaq. Harts was managing director of strategic business development for SSB's global equity division and was earlier head of its global portfolio trading business. He was at SSB for 10 years, before which he worked at Goldman Sachs. Simmons said: "Bill will play a key role helping us sort through the many opportunities in front of Nasdaq as the financial markets continue to consolidate."
