Nicholas Applegate, the US fund management firm owned by German insurer Allianz, has hired Steve Tael as a vice-president in its international quantitatively-run equities division. The firm has grown quant assets by 25% over the past year.

Tael was previously a research analyst at Mellon Capital Management in San Francisco. He has a strong background in quantitative model building, model production and portfolio management support.
