Northern Rock today published its annual report covering a year in which it started as the largest lender of new mortgages in the UK - accounting for a fifth of all home loans in the first quarter - and finished as a wreck battered by the harsh turmoil of the credit crunch and washed up at the door of the Bank of England.
The UK lender had revealed much of the detail in today's report prior to its publication, but its accounts tell the tale of the Northern Rock collapse in numbers.
