Marie Dzanis is a big fan of Sir Ernest Shackleton, the British explorer who abandoned his Antarctic expedition in 1915 when his ship, Endurance, became trapped in sea ice, forcing him and his crew to escape on foot and in lifeboats.

The 53-year-old, who became head of Northern Trust Asset Management’s Europe, the Middle East and Africa business in 2018, has over the past year drawn inspiration from the renowned polar explorer, whose ill-fated voyage has provided a wealth of material for business school lectures and leadership books.
