Northern Trust heads east

First-quarter fees are up 22% as hedge funds in the Asia-Pacific region fuel demand

Northern Trust's announcement that it had received official approval to open a representative office in Beijing could be of long-term significance to its securities lending business.

Andy Clayton, head of international securities lending at Northern Trust Global Investments, believes the Asia Pacific region holds huge potential for securities lenders. He said: "We recently changed our structure in Asia because we think it will be a strategic growth area."
