The New York Mercantile Exchange, the world's largest energy futures market, has appointed a former chairman of Calyon, Roy Leighton, to boost its flagging European operations.

Leighton has joined Nymex Europe as chairman of its board of directors. He was at Calyon, formerly Credit Lyonnais, since 1973, most recently as UK chairman and member of its European advisory board.
