NYSE gets $12.6bn price tag as shares soar

Shares of the New York Stock Exchange jumped 25% to $80 during their first day of trading today as the NYSE went public following its reverse takeover of electronic exchange Archipelago. The share price values the merged group at $12.6bn (€10.5bn).

Lawrence Goldstein, general partner at US fund manager Santa Monica Partners, which manages almost $200m and owns shares in the NYSE, told Bloomberg: "This company is a giant in a way, but a baby in terms of being a profit-making corporation. It will be a great investment over the next decade.'
