The New York Stock Exchange has reportedly met Euronext, the European exchange, for exploratory merger talks.

The Wall Street Journal reports, citing people familiar with the matter, that John Thain, the NYSE chief executive, met with his Euronext counterpart, Jean-François Theodore, in Paris last week.
