NYSE seats hit new peak as court fight begins

A seat on The New York Stock Exchange last night sold for a record $3.025m (€2.59m), topping a previous high set last month. It came as the NYSE went to court to fight lawsuits brought by shareholders opposed to its planned merger with Archipelago.

The court case, brought by dissident shareholders led by William Higgins, a long-term seat holder and opponent of the planned merger, began in Manhattan yesterday.
