UK pension schemes up hedge fund investments by £12bn

Figures suggest UK schemes are diversifying away from equities, and into bonds and hedge funds

The UK's pension funds had £12 billion more invested in hedge funds at the end of March than they did a year before that, according to the latest data - as they continued to diversify investments away from the stock market.

The figures come from the annual "Purple Book" survey run by the UK government's Pension Protection Fund agency, which tracks the finances of the UK's £1.1 trillion worth of corporate pension funds.
