Permal Group, the $35bn (€25bn) hedge fund arm of US-based asset manager Legg Mason, has appointed a Goldman Sachs veteran to the helm of its UK business as it moves to expand its investment activities in the domestic market.

The fund of hedge funds manager has brought in Glyn Clark as director of UK operations, in a new role overseeing the firm's business with its institutional clients.
