Fears surrounding the troubled agency mortgage-backed securities market in the US are overdone, according to US fund manager Pimco, which expects the sector, dominated by large institutions such as Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, to recover soon.

The US company, one of the largest bond managers, said the volatility that had struck the agency MBS sector from the fallout in the sub-prime market was temporary and had provided plenty of investment opportunities.
