Alliance & Leicester and Northern Rock had the worst shareholder attendance at their annual general meetings last year, according to a study by Pensions Investment Research Consultants, the activist shareholder lobby group.

Only 35% of registered shareholders attended Alliance & Leicester's May general meeting, making it the worst-attended of FTSE 100 AGMs.
