Polar creates risk role

London-based asset manager Polar Capital has hired the head of risk management for proprietary trading at Credit Suisse to a new position as chief risk officer, as the funds industry steps up its monitoring of investment risk in the wake of the credit crunch.

Mark Kary, Polar’s chief executive officer, said the London Stock Exchange-listed fund management firm had created the position as “difficult markets” increased fund managers and investors’ focus on the risk of investing.
