City of London Police have destroyed a “significant cannabis factory” found on the premises of a building on Throgmorton Street in London.

The factory of over 800 plants was first discovered on 13 January following reports of a potent smell of cannabis, the police said in a statement. The growing operation has since been torn down and destroyed after a warrant was obtained.

The inspector leading the investigation said “this is the first cannabis factory in the City, no doubt being set up in response to fewer people being out and about during the pandemic who might have noticed any unusual activity.

He added that “this demonstrates that City of London Police continues to actively police the Square Mile, bearing down on any crime committed here.”
