Citadel Capital to abandon private equity

Economic fallout from the Arab spring forces Egypt’s largest private equity firm to change tack

Egypt-listed private equity firm Citadel Capital announced today that it is moving away from private equity as the economic fallout from the Arab spring continues to bite.

The Cairo-headquartered firm has confirmed that it will no longer do any traditional private equity deals. Instead, it has said that it will focus on becoming an "investment company" by taking a longer term approach to investments and increasing shareholdings in its portfolio companies, with the aim of becoming a majority owner.
