Private equity firms have feasted on the UK restaurant sector. Now they’re stuck with assets in an industry that has been hit hard by the coronavirus pandemic – and there’s little prospect of getting these businesses off their plate any time soon.

In the current market, there are few potential buyers willing to stick their neck out on a high street food chain, says Richard Madden, UK chief executive at investment bank DC Advisory.
