Private equity firms line up to pick over Parmalat

Private equity firms are circling Parmalat, the troubled Italian food group, evaluating which of the 90 brands to be sold as part of a debt for equity restructuring plan, might yield most value.

A senior London banker said: "Financial sponsors are starting to look at Parmalat's divestment plans in anticipation of strong interest in the products on offer." The source said several private equity firms were likely to be interested.
