It only took a week for John to hear his colleagues joke about gay people at his new job at a London-based private equity firm.

John — whose name has been changed for anonymity — says the constant homophobic comments he has been hearing for more than a year have now pushed him to consider quitting the firm. The 26-year-old analyst is openly gay in his private life. However, he keeps his sexual orientation a secret at the office.
