High profile data breaches and rising cyberattacks are forcing buyout firms to get tougher on cybersecurity before they back an investment.

When Yahoo sold its internet business to Verizon Communications in 2017, it had to knock $350m off of the original $4.8bn price tag because of previously undisclosed data breaches – underscoring the hefty impact cybersecurity lapses can have on valuations.
