MTS, the Rome-based pan-European bond exchange, has appointed Niels Thygesen, professor of economic policy at the University of Copenhagen, as chairman of MTS and chairman elect of Euro MTS, its government bond subsidiary.

MTS operates a network of bond exchanges across Europe. Thygesen's appointment continues a tradition of appointing senior academics and policy advisers to chair the firm, which aims to revolutionise the way bonds are traded in Europe.
