Property assets proved to be the best-performing asset class for UK pension funds with returns of 11.5% for the first nine months of the year, according to research by the WM Company, the performance measurement firm.

The research, which covers two-thirds of the UK market, indicated that total asset returns were up 2.2% for the three months to September and 4.9% for the year to date.
