Prudential, the FTSE 100 life insurer, is combining its fund management business with its UK and European life insurance arm, in a move that underlines the evolution of Britain's traditional high-street insurers into investment businesses.

Analysts also believe the move could be a precursor to a sale of Prudential's UK operations.
