Putnam and Mercer face further probes by US regulators

Putnam Investments, one of several fund managers to be hit by the mutual fund scandal in the US, faces a fresh probe over its relationships with consultants, who play a pivotal role in awarding investment business to fund managers.

Putnam's parent, Marsh & McLennan, the US insurer, also revealed that its own advisory business Mercer Investment Consulting, is helping with a separate Securities Exchange Commission investigation.
