RBS board face harsh reality of financial crisis

Royal Bank of Scotland’s chief executive and management board have been riding high on the successes of the bank’s operational performance and heady global expansion over the past seven years but yesterday they returned to Earth with a thud.

On a typically dreary, grey day in the Scottish capital, chief executive Sir Fred Goodwin and his top lieutenants assembled for the bank’s annual general meeting in the main auditorium of the Edinburgh International Conference Centre to face the ire of some 300 RBS shareholders.
