The Royal Bank of Scotland has hired a senior economist from Barclays Capital to lead its debt markets strategy and economics effort in the Asia Pacific region.

Based in the Tokyo office of RBS' Japanese subsidiary, John Richards joins the bank after five years at Barclays where he was most recently head of research in Japan. Richards has covered the country for 14 of his 25 years in investment banking.
