Private equity houses working through an all-time low in exit opportunities are turning to financial engineering to release cash and return capital to investors.

Recapitalisations, which relever a cash-generative company allowing it to return money to investors, have prevailed in the past year, according to industry pundits. More are rumoured to be coming from the industry's largest firms.
