Regulator tells CSFB to separate research from banking

Massachusetts lawsuit points finger at Quattrone's tech group

A lawsuit filed by securities regulators in Massachusetts has demanded that Credit Suisse First Boston (CSFB) fully separate its research division from investment banking.

William Galvin, secretary of state for Massachusetts who is leading an investigation into the bank's research practices, has formally charged CSFB with violating securities laws, singling out the technology group still headed by Frank Quattrone.
