The Salomon name, synonymous with the high-rolling fixed income markets of the 1980s, will disappear from the investment banking world for good next year after a rebranding of Salomon Smith Barney by its parent company Citigroup.
The decision to kill off the Salomon name will cut the last visble link between the staid Citigroup and the infamous Salomon Brothers of the 1980s, immortalised by the book Liar's Poker.
