Schemes increase alternatives exposure

Pension funds worldwide invested $77bn (€60bn) of new money in alternative investments during 2005, up by nearly a quarter from the year before. They continued to be the largest investor in the asset class by far, according to research from consultancy Watson Wyatt.

Pension funds last year held a total of $465bn, or 37%, of all investments in property, funds of hedge funds, funds of private equity funds, and commodities.
