Sixth anniversary of independence finds economy sluggish despite toppling of Salmond

Edinburgh, September 18, 2020: The sixth anniversary of Scotland’s historic vote to leave the United Kingdom passed off relatively peacefully in Edinburgh today.

While demonstrators demanding a return to the Union had to be prevented by riot police from clashing with Nationalists outside the Scottish parliament building in Holyrood, elsewhere the anniversary offered a moment for quiet reflection on the consequences of Scotland voting in 2014 to go it alone.
