SEC backs Spitzer investigation

The Securities and Exchange Commission has joined forces with Eliot Spitzer, the New York State attorney general, in an investigation into misleading equity research from investment banks.

The Commission formally launched its investigation into bank equity research in a signal that it wants to establish some order over the question of analyst reform by taking it to the Federal level.
