SEC broadens Spitzer's mutual fund trading probe

The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) is launching an investigation to determine if the illegal trading of mutual funds revealed by Eliot Spitzer, New York State attorney general, is rife within the industry.

The SEC is writing letters to all major mutual fund operators across the industry, demanding information about their trading practices.
