SEC plans to end ban on hedge fund advertising

Hedge funds could be free to advertise their products on television and in newspapers and magazines for the first time if proposals made by US regulators last week are adopted.

The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) suggested lifting the ban on advertising as part of its review of the hedge fund industry, published last week. It proposed that all hedge funds should be registered as investment advisers and subject to scrutiny that goes with registration.
