Kill switches top the bill at SEC tech talk

Safeguards including emergency “kill switches” should be introduced in the wake of a string of trading glitches that have shaken the US equity market, according to participants at a roundtable held by the US Securities and Exchange Commission.

Software errors in the past year have caused Bats Exchange to cancel its initial public offering, delayed the opening of trading for the high-profile Facebook IPO and led to the near-collapse of broker Knight Capital.
