Securities lawyer urges SEC to rethink rules

A US securities lawyer has added her voice to calls for the US Securities and Exchange Commission to soften its stance over proposed new rules governing asset-backed securities.

Ellen Marks, a partner at law firm Latham & Watkins, argued that the SEC's proposals in their present form could prevent prospective issuers from gaining access to the capital markets and cause trouble for existing securities.
