Mergers and acquisitions activity could increase in the biotechnology sector this year, a report from SG Cowen has said.

The report says that while 2000 could be characterised as the year of the initial public offering, 2001 ended with the prospect that 2002 could be &quotthe year of M&A&quot for biotechnology.
