SG shuts equities proprietary trading unit

SG Securities, the investment banking arm of Société Générale, has shut down its equities proprietary trading unit due to lack of profitablility.

According to sources close to the bank, the move follows the failure of the equities proprietary trading team to meet the levels of profitability the bank expects from its businesses. The bank declined to comment on whether the unit had made a loss.
