Shareholders barred from attending company AGMs in person

Lawyers and governance bodies release briefing note for companies holding AGMs under the government lockdown

Shareholders should be barred from attending company AGMs in person, under the lockdown measures imposed across the UK to combat the spread of the coronavirus, according to legal advice. However, company meetings can still go ahead online.

As the virus spread throughout Europe in recent weeks, sparking almost unprecedented restrictions on freedom of movement, many companies have announced plans to postpone their annual general meetings, or to hold them “virtually”, with electronic remote voting and no shareholders physically present.
