Baroness Sharon Bowles, the former chair of the European parliament’s influential economic and monetary affairs committee, has officially entered the race to become chair of the UK's new audit watchdog.

Bowles, who has been a longstanding critic of the Financial Reporting Council, the UK’s current audit regulator, told Financial News she has applied to replace Sir Win Bischoff, who is due to step down later this year.
