Short sellers misguided in targeting China

Short sellers have been forced out of Europe and are currently hunting in China, but Societe Generale has warned their actions may be misplaced

The European-wide ban on short selling has forced fund managers to look abroad for opportunities. But according to Societe Generale, fund managers should stop betting against China.

In August, Belgium, France, Italy and Spain enacted short-selling bans, stopping fund managers betting that stocks would fall. Robbed of one wobbling economy, managers have turned east to China, another economy that seems unsure whether it will land on a mattress or a bed of nails.
