SocGen investment bank chief: M&A won’t fix European banking woes

As poor performance forces the French lender to overhaul its investment bank, Séverin Cabannes says mergers will not fix the industry

Mergers in European banking are not the answer to the sector’s problems, according to Societe Generale’s investment banking chief.

“Historically, investment banking mergers simply do not work. The execution risks are too high,” Séverin Cabannes, the deputy chief executive in charge of the French lender’s investment bank, told Financial News.
