Sodexho Alliance, the French catering group, has asked financial regulators to open an enquiry after an analyst's report drove its share price down by almost 8% in a few hours.

In a statement issued Tuesday morning the company said a study by Smith Barney, the research arm of Citigroup, contained "false information" that had fuelled doubts about the company's financial transparency and led to speculation on its shares.
