Distressed investor Strategic Value Partners has appointed the former global head of corporate and investment banking at Banco Bilbao Vizcaya Argentaria to its advisory council, as it anticipates an increase in opportunities in Europe.

The firm, which focuses on distressed and "deep value" opportunities, has appointed José Barreiro as the fifth member of its advisory council. Other members of the council include Sir David Cooksey, Bernd Fahrholz, Hideto Ozaki and Jeffrey Peek, according to an SVP statement.
