Spitzer says tougher regulation needed for retail hedge funds

Eliot Spitzer, the New York State Attorney General, claims hedge funds with low minimum investment levels should be more tightly regulated.

Speaking at the Practising Law Institute in New York, Spitzer said hedge funds that accept as little as $15,000 (€12,580) from individual investors should be subject to greater controls than those requiring at least $1m.
