Sprint and Nextel talk $30bn merger

Two of the largest US mobile phone companies are in talks over a potential merger that would top $30bn (€22.7bn) and rapidly accelerate the consolidation of the US wireless industry.

Quoting people familiar with the situation, The Wall Street Journal reports that Sprint and Nextel Communications are in discussions to create the third-largest mobile phone operator in the US with about 38.5 million customers.
