The co-chief executives of Standard Life Aberdeen have defended their positions at the asset manager's annual general meeting following tough questions from shareholders about the leadership structure and the number of external positions held by Martin Gilbert.

Gilbert, who last week confirmed to Financial News he will stand down as deputy chairman at Sky after the British broadcaster's prolonged takeover is finalised, was quizzed about his external board roles at the AGM in London today.
