State Street, whose UK subsidiary holds a near-monopoly in analysing the investment performance of more than £200 billion worth of council pension funds, has withdrawn the standalone service amid the government's drive to consolidate the funds.

State Street will continue to offer performance analysis to pension funds, but only if they also employ the firm as their custodian, according to council documents.
