The pound climbed after the British press reported that Andrea Leadsom, one of the contenders in the British Conservative party leadership race, was quitting the contest.

Leadsom later confirmed the reports. Leadsom's exit left only Theresa May, the current Home Secretary, in the running for the leadership of the party. With a Conservative majority in the UK House of Commons, the winner of the contest will become Prime Minister.
