Sunak blasted for excluding over a million people from coronavirus support schemes

‘While the government is clear that it is moving on to the next phase of its recovery plan, it cannot just turn its back on those who are suffering’

Treasury Committee Chair Mel Stride has criticised Rishi Sunak for “drawing a line” under the government’s exclusion of more than a million individuals from Covid-19 emergency support packages.

In a 23 July statement, after the Chancellor rejected the 15 June recommendations made by the committee to reduce the gap in support, the influential cross-party parliamentary group rebuked the chancellor for ignoring those in need.
